Description of Activity:
An annual event that invites anyone looking at recruiting young people, either full time, part time,
casual, as a traineeship or apprenticeship to give up one day to conduct interviews.
Mid Coast Youth Careers Services will maintain a job board for the project which will be set up in
each participating school, youth or other venue, Mid Coast Youth Career Services (MCYCS)
website and advertised in the newspaper.
A support pack will be given to each participant assisting them to put together a
resume, application cover letter, advice about presentation, interview skills and provide tips on
how to learn about the position and industry through research. Schools and agencies will be able
to assist in facilitation of the support pack.
Unless demand is high, there will be no selection process, ie all applicants will be interviewed as
this is a key objective of the project. If the demand for one position is too high, ie 15 or more
applicants, the application cover letter and resume will be used as a selection tool. Those not
gaining an interview will be given second or third preferences as well as feedback on why they
didn’t get their first preference.
Each applicant will be personally responsible for getting to the interview. Venue still to be
confirmed.
Just before each interview, interviewers will read through the application cover letter and resume.
At the end of each interview the applicants will receive direct feedback from the interviewers
regarding the interview, their application cover letter, resume and presentation. If successful the
applicant will be offered the position or, if required, invited to attend a second interview.
Each applicant will be given a certificate of participation by Mid Coast Youth Career Services.
